CFR 48: the FARS

The Federal Acquisition Regulation System, commonly known as the FARS, is found in title 48 of the Code of Federal Regulations. It is composed of the set of regulations governing the process by which the federal government purchases the goods and services that it needs to function. The FARS is the primary body of regulations for use by most Federal Executive departments and agencies in their acquisition of supplies and services with appropriated funds.

In addition to the main body of the FARS, each department of the federal government publishes supplements to the FARS, which add additional regulations and clauses relevant to that department.
