Section 5452.209-9026: Production lot test (PLT).

As prescribed in 9.306-90(b), insert the following clause:

PRODUCTION LOT TEST (PLT) (JAN 2009) - DLAD

    (a) For the Lots/Items specified, the Contractor is required to provide Production Lot Test (PLT) samples, at no charge to the Government. The PLT samples shall conform to all requirements in the Procurement Item Description (PID) of this contract.

    (b) PLT samples shall be selected at random by the cognizant Government Quality Assurance Representative (QAR).

    (c) The Contractor shall package, pack, mark, and ship the samples to [Contracting Officer shall insert name and address of testing facility as identified in Material Master, Product Assurance Tab, under Classification]. The Contractor shall mark packages containing PLT samples in bold letters, below and to the left of the address, as follows: “PRODUCTION LOT TEST SAMPLES: Contract Number [Contractor insert] and Lot/Item Number [Contractor insert].”

    (d) The Contractor is responsible for all transportation charges incurred in the submission and return of any PLT samples. The Contractor shall ship all PLT samples by traceable means.

    (e) The Contractor shall deliver PLT samples to the testing facility in sufficient time prior to the required delivery date for the production quantity to allow for the following:

    (1) Transportation time from the Contractor to the testing facility;

    (2) A [Contracting Officer insert number of days as shown in Material Master, Product Assurance tab, under Classification] calendar day period for the facility to conduct the testing after receipt of the PLT samples;

    (3) Receipt by the Contracting Officer of the testing results and recommendation of approval or disapproval from the testing facility; and

    (4) Receipt by the Contractor of written notification of approval/disapproval from the Contracting Officer.

    (f) In the event the Contractor fails to deliver any PLT sample for testing within the timeframe specified above or the Contracting Officer disapproves any PLT sample, the Contracting Officer shall notify the Contractor, in writing, of the appropriate course of action. If the Contracting Officer requires the manufacture of a new production lot or a rework of the rejected production lot, the foregoing procedures shall apply to the new or reworked production lots.

    (g) The Contracting Officer or any Government personnel designated by the Contracting Officer shall be permitted entry into the Contractor’s plant to observe and consult during manufacturing operations.

    (h) Approved PLT samples will be returned to the Contractor for delivery with the production quantity, unless the item description indicates the samples will be subjected to destructive testing.
