The Curly Haired Tarantula is scientifically known as Brachypelma albopilosum. However, their faster growth rate compared to the Red Knees makes it a more appealing species for beginners. Adults of this species range from 4-6 inches and feature curly hairs that cover their bodies. A species from rainforests of Costa Rica and Hondorus that is somewhat different to others in the genus. The Honduran Curly Hair Tarantula (Brachypelma Albopilosum) is a medium sized new world tarantula. The Curly Hair Tarantula is a long-lived and relatiuvely peaceful tarantula that poses no particular problems if a few golden rules are followed. This species has existed in the pet trade for decades and were once imported in huge numbers.
This gives the spider an overall bronze sheen. Most of the bristles are a dark brown to black, but some are golden. This is a staple species in the hobby and has been around for a long time.
It has a leg span of 4 ½ to 5 ½ inches. It has been reported that these spiders can eat small pinky mice, however it is not suggested because the calcium in the mammals’ bones is not good for the tarantula. It is therefore easily handled. The Tliltocatl albopilosum known as the Curly Hair Tarantula has recently seen the common name in the hobby split into the Nicaraguan Curly Hair (true form) and the Honduran Curly Hair (curly hair). It is commonly found in Costa Rica close by to a direct water source such as a river, preferring humid environments. The Brachypelma Albopilosum or otherwise also known as the Honduran Curly Hair is a species whose original habitat is located in the Central Americas, in the savannas, like its cousin, the Mexican Red knee Tarantula.

Handling: Curly hairs are considered the best tarantula for handling due to their docile nature. Growing to a legspan of some 5 – 6 inches, it has only modest requirements in captivity.
